Memorial of the 215 Indigenous children

6/18/2021

In response to the horrific discovery of 215 Indigenous children on the grounds of the former residential school in Kamloops, B.C., the Town of Ajax paused on June 7 2021 with a 2-minute and 15-second moment of silence at 2:15 p.m.
This was done from Heritage Square (Ajax Town Hall) which will feature a powerful visual representation of the young lives lost.
The pictures were taken just before the memorial started and the 2.15 min. of silence.
The shoes and stuffies were put there by many of us.

Fog.

5/11/2021

Why do I go for a walk in the fog? I am from a country (the Netherlands) where there is a lot of fog. I am living in Canada already for 40 years close to Toronto, Ontario. And there is maybe only 5 times a year fog. So yes, I take my camera and go out for a walk early in the morning by the lake when we have a day like that. It reminds me of my birth country. I love the way nature looks, the smell and the dampness. I am ready fast in the morning, as my hair does not like this kind of weather.  Lol.  But most of us have that problem. I know it is not nice to drive in it, but walking in this is great!

12/31/2020

2020 has been a interesting year. Starting in the month of March with a lock down. After the lockdown was done,  I kept the studio closed, to be on the safe side and only did on location photo shoots. Christmas mini session were in my back yard. What went really well.  Let’s hope in 2021 will go better and we can get back to normal. We end the year in a lockdown. As soon as this is lifted I will do photo shoots on location for now only.
I wish you a Happy New Year!!

Front door photo shoot covid time 2020

9/20/2020

It is already half a year we are in “covid time” Who thought it would take this long. At the start back in March, we were asked all to stay home as much as possible. Going for a walk was ok. So I had to close the studio, but on my walks I would do “front door” session and I would keep my distance. It was a lot of fun to do. I would take a variety of pictures of a family.  Hear their story’s. There is one picture of an older lady, she lives close to my home and goes for long walks.  I believe she is about 90. Always happy, always ready for a chat. She is called “the grandma of the neighbourhood” . Lets all work together, follow the rules. Hopefully covid will be gone soon. Stay safe!

Snowbirds fly cross-country covid-19

5/22/2020

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds were flying across the country to salute Canadians doing their part to fight the spread of COVID-19.  This unique mission is being aptly dubbed Operation INSPIRATION.
It features the team's signature nine-jet formation.
These pictures are at the time they flew over Ajax. Ont.
The last pictures is special, as one of the planes crashed in Kamloops BC. We all are thinking about the crew and family's of the snowbirds at this time. RIP Capt. Jennifer Casey.

Edge Walk CN Tower Toronto, Canada

12/3/2019

I am always ready for adventure. I did it years ago with a friend. Than my husband and I wanted to do it together. Not planning to do it again. But after that, things changed when my brother came from the Netherlands. I could NOT let him do it alone. This is so cool to do this with your big brother. So there I went again.
It is an experience, the world’s highest hands free external walk on a building. Edge Walk is CN Tower’s most thrilling attraction in its history.
It is the world’s highest full circle hands-free walk on a 1.5 m (5 ft) wide ledge encircling the top of the Tower’s main pod, 356m/1,168ft (116 storeys) above the ground. The Edge Walk Experience includes a keepsake video, printed photos, certificate of achievement and a ticket to re-enter the CN Tower.
The first pictures were taken by my husband through the glass, because only the people that go up can be in that room. You get a breath test. Not a drop of alcohol can be in you. And the metal detector comes out
Hair has to be tied up and shoes can’t fall off. Glasses have to be tied with a string. Big earrings have to come out. Then you get instructions, and suit and harness goes on. And up we go.
We walk in groups of six, (my brother and I were lucky as there was only us that wanted to go up at that time) while attached to an overhead safety rail via a trolley and harness system. Trained Edge Walk guides encourage participants to push their personal limits, allowing them to lean back over Toronto with nothing but air and breathtaking views of Lake Ontario beneath them.
The guide tells you all about Toronto. You don’t want to do what he says, no problem you do not have to do it.
It is the most amazing way to see Toronto!!
The pictures from the walk are taken by the guide, as we are not allowed camera’s out on the Edge Walk.

Remembrance day in Canada

11/22/2019

Canadians recognize Remembrance Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m.
Remembrance Day is recalling the war and military sacrifice, attracting thousands to ceremonies in cities large and small across the country. It remained a day to honour the fallen.  Remembrance Day ceremonies were usually held at war memorials, or sometimes at schools or in other public places. Two minutes of silence, the playing of the Last Post, the recitation of In Flanders Fields, and the wearing of poppies quickly became associated with the ceremony.
I do go every year to a town or city. This year it was in a small town.  Some classes of a school were there and people from town. It was a snowy and cold day this November the 11 th.

The barge at Niagara Falls

11/14/2019

The Niagara Scow (also called the Old Scow or Iron Scow) is the unofficial name of the wreck of a small scow that brought two men perilously close to plunging over the Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the Niagara Falls, in 1918. The wreck can still be seen, upstream of the falls.
On the night of Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 there was a big storm. It loosened the barge and it moved after 101 years.  A little closer to the falls now.  When it will go over the Canadian Falls is a wait and see.
The story about the barge went all over the world.
I am sure I will be back soon by the falls. I hope to catch it going over.

    This is who I am,

I am Karin Miedema. I was born in the Netherlands. I was a midwife assistant and then stayed in the family for ten days after the baby is born. I am a specialized  nurse for the mother and new born babies. I teach them how to look after the new born, Make sure mom heals fine and baby is ok. I also look after other children in the family and some housework. ‘Kraamverzorgster” this is called and for as far as I know only the Netherlands has this kind of care. I looked after children from when I was very young.

I  Emigrated to Canada in 1981 and married a Canadian. I have 2 sons and 2 daughters and 2 beautiful granddaughters. They love to be in my studio and be my model and use the props I have.

I have had a cat and dog, but they both passed. You can see I love animals.

I always had a strong interest in pictures and photography all my life.

I started with photography about 10 years ago. First nature (that I still do) and for the last 8 years I do photo shoots. I have a studio here at home, lots of props I can use if needed, but will also go on location.

I am a family photographer and love to work with children.

But I also do pets and events.

Have a look at my pictures.  If you have any questions, please email me at miedema.kg@rogers.com

For now enjoy the pictures and I hope to see you in the near future for a photo shoot.
